Happy new year and thank you for checking out Beyond Non-JD over the last year.
I started Beyond Non-JD to combine two topics near and dear to me: (1) discussing the realities of life as a staffer in higher education, particularly in law schools and (2) exploring the world of Non-JD Programs and how US law schools utilize them. An added benefit has been speaking at the intersection of these two topics when people ask me about careers in this line of work.
I wanted to write about these topics because I didn’t see much public discussion about either area. Blogging also helped me as we headed into Semester 3 of the pandemic (Spring 2021), over the Summer, and as we prepared for Semester 4 of the pandemic (Fall 2021).
As we enter 2022, I’m excited to continue blogging on Beyond Non-JD. Some of the many topics I hope to cover are: (1) MSLs and the evolving role of LLMs in a Non-JD shop; (2) US law school competitiveness to attract international law students; (3) global partnerships in a pandemic world; and (4) career trajectories & compensation as a staffer with a JD degree. I also want to continue offering advice to people looking to enter this field, especially given the pandemic.
For now, I recommend looking at Prof. Muller’s post on Non-JD Enrollment (TaxProf link here) and looking at the JD/Non-JD Enrollment data on the ABA website.
A couple other very exciting updates to share in the coming months on this blog!
